E-Way Bill Login: How to Login to the E-Way Bill Portal

The e-way bill portal is where you'll generate, update, cancel, and track e-way bills for as long as your business moves goods under GST. This page covers everything about logging in, registering for the first time, fixing access problems, and using the second official portal as a backup.

The Official E-Way Bill Portal

The primary e-way bill portal is ewaybillgst.gov.in, built and operated by the National Informatics Centre (NIC) under the government's GST framework. In July 2025, NIC launched a second portal, E-Way Bill 2.0 (ewaybill2.gst.gov.in), which syncs data with the original portal in real time.

You use the same GSTIN and password on both portals; there's no separate registration for the second one. If the primary site is slow or briefly unavailable, you can log in and work from the backup portal without losing any data, since the two systems stay synchronised.

How to Log In (Existing Users)

  1. Go to ewaybillgst.gov.in.
  2. Enter your User ID, password, and the captcha code shown on screen.
  3. Click "Login."
  4. Complete the OTP-based two-factor authentication (2FA) step, using the OTP sent to your registered mobile number or email.
  5. You'll land on your dashboard, showing your GSTIN, legal name, and user type (taxpayer or transporter).

Two-factor authentication is now compulsory for all users logging into the portal, so keep your registered mobile number and email up to date to avoid getting locked out.

How to Register on the Portal (First-Time Users)

If you have a GSTIN but haven't registered on the e-way bill portal yet:

  1. Open ewaybillgst.gov.in and close the login pop-up if it appears.
  2. Click "Registration," then select "e-Way Bill Registration."
  3. Enter your 15-digit GSTIN and the captcha, then click "Go."
  4. The portal auto-fills your name, trade name, address, email, and mobile number from the GST database. If anything looks outdated, click "Update from GST Common Portal" to refresh it.
  5. Click "Send OTP," enter the OTP received on your registered mobile number, and verify it.
  6. Create a User ID (8 to 15 alphanumeric characters) and a password (8 to 15 characters, combining letters, numbers, and special characters; case-sensitive).
  7. Submit. Your account is created, and you can now log in with these credentials.

For the full registration walkthrough, including transporter enrolment, see our E-Way Bill Registration page.

Login for Unregistered Transporters

Transporters without a GSTIN can still access the system through a separate enrolment process:

  1. Visit the e-way bill portal and click "Enrolment for Transporters" under the Registration tab.
  2. Fill in the Enrolment Form under Section 35(2): select your state, and enter your PAN and business details.
  3. Create a username and password for future logins.
  4. Confirm the declaration checkbox and click "Save."
  5. The system generates a 15-digit TRANS ID, which the transporter can share with clients for e-way bill assignment.

Forgot Password

  1. On the login page, click "Forgot Password."
  2. Enter your User ID (or GSTIN) and your registered mobile number.
  3. Verify the OTP sent to that number.
  4. Set a new password, following the same 8-15 character, mixed-format rule.

If you've also forgotten your User ID, a similar "Forgot Username" option on the portal lets you recover it using your registered GSTIN and mobile number.

Common Login Problems and Fixes

  • OTP not received: Check that your registered mobile number is active and correctly updated on both the GST portal and the e-way bill portal; a mismatch is the most common cause.
  • Account locked after multiple failed attempts: Wait for the cooldown period, or use the "Forgot Password" flow to reset your credentials.
  • Captcha not loading: Clear your browser cache, or try the backup portal, ewaybill2.gst.gov.in.
  • "Invalid GSTIN" during registration: Confirm your GSTIN is active and correctly entered; a suspended or cancelled GSTIN won't complete registration.
  • Portal down or slow: Since the two portals sync in real time, switch to E-Way Bill 2.0 and continue your work there.

Using the Portal After Login

Once logged in, your dashboard gives you access to:

  • Generate New: Create a fresh e-way bill.
  • Update Vehicle Number: Add or change transport details for an existing e-way bill.
  • Extend Validity: Extend an e-way bill nearing expiry.
  • Cancel: Cancel an e-way bill generated in error, within the allowed window.
  • Close E-Way Bill: Mark a delivered shipment's e-way bill as closed, using the newer voluntary closure feature.
  • Reports: View and download a history of e-way bills generated against your GSTIN.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to register separately for E-Way Bill 2.0?

No. Your existing GSTIN and password work on both ewaybillgst.gov.in and ewaybill2.gst.gov.in.

Is GST registration mandatory to use the e-way bill login system?

No. Unregistered transporters can enrol separately through the "Enrolment for Transporters" option and receive a TRANS ID.

What is the difference between the User ID and GSTIN during login?

The GSTIN identifies your business under GST. The User ID is a separate identifier you create specifically for the e-way bill portal, tied to that GSTIN.

Can multiple employees log in using the same account?

The main account can create sub-users with limited permissions, so different employees can log in with their own credentials instead of sharing the main password.
