Filing a GST return, bidding on a government tender, or signing an MCA form without a valid digital signature certificate simply doesn't work anymore. Every one of those portals asks for the same thing at checkout: attach your DSC. If you don't have one, or the old one has expired, the process stops right there.
That's the gap this page closes. We issue Class 3 Digital Signature Certificates through CCA-licensed Certifying Authorities, including eMudhra DSC, and we handle the entire application, video KYC, and USB token delivery from our side. Most applicants get their certified electronic signature the same day they apply.
Here's what you'll find below: what a DSC actually is, why Class 3 is now the only class that matters, current pricing, the documents you need, and how renewal works if your existing certificate is running out.
A digital signature certificate is a government-recognised electronic credential that proves who signed a document online. It works through public key infrastructure, pairing a private key held by the signer with a public key embedded in the certificate. It's most commonly used for MCA filings, GST returns, income tax e-filing, and e-tendering. Under the Information Technology Act, 2000, a validly issued DSC carries the same legal weight as a handwritten signature.
Honestly, most explainers make this sound more complicated than it is. In practice, a DSC is a small file (usually stored on a USB token) that your browser or the government portal reads when you click "sign." No stamp, no ink, no courier.

A class 3 digital signature is the highest-assurance DSC category issued in India. It works by verifying the applicant's identity through a mandatory video KYC and Aadhaar/PAN-based eKYC before issuance. Most commonly used for e-tendering, e-procurement, GeM, and MCA21 filings. Class 1 certificates were discontinued by the Controller of Certifying Authorities years ago, so Class 3 is effectively the default now.
I've had clients ask me why there's no "Class 2 option" anymore — there used to be one, and it was cheaper, but the CCA phased it out because the verification standard wasn't strong enough for financial and statutory filings. Class 3 closed that gap.
Individual DSC:- issued in the applicant's own name, used for ITR filing, DIR-3 KYC, and personal MCA compliance.
Organisational DSC:- issued to a company, LLP, or firm along with an authorised signatory's details, used for company filings, GST, and tenders.
DGFT DSC:- a variant required specifically for import-export code holders on the DGFT portal.
Some portals, particularly e-tendering and GeM, ask for a combo certificate that bundles a signing certificate with an encryption certificate. If you're only filing MCA or income tax forms, a signature-only DSC is enough — buying combo when you don't need it just adds cost.
eMudhra digital signature certificates are issued by eMudhra Limited, one of the CCA-licensed Certifying Authorities operating in India alongside Capricorn, PantaSign, and a handful of others. It works through the same PKI framework as every licensed CA. Most commonly chosen for its wide portal acceptance across MCA, GST, and tender sites. eMudhra has been operating as a licensed CA since 2008.
We work primarily with eMudhra DSC and Capricorn because acceptance across Indian government portals is the most consistent of the lot — in my experience, that's the detail that trips people up more than price does. A cheaper certificate that a particular tender portal rejects is not actually cheaper.
Class 3 DSC price typically ranges between roughly ₹1,300 and ₹2,000 for a certificate covering one to two years, depending on validity period, whether you're buying signature-only or combo, and whether a new USB token is included. Most commonly the price includes GST, token, and delivery. A 2-year individual signing certificate is the most searched configuration among first-time applicants.
Worth knowing: the certificate fee is only one part of the bill. If you don't already own a compatible USB crypto token, that's a separate line item, and since July 2023 old tokens generally can't be reused to download a fresh DSC. Ask us for the exact break-up before you pay — we quote it as one number, not three surprise charges.

A DSC token is a FIPS-certified USB crypto device that stores your private key in tamper-resistant hardware. It works by keeping the key non-exportable, so it never leaves the physical device. Most commonly required for Class 3 certificates, since CCA rules mandate hardware storage rather than software-only storage. Losing the token means losing signing access until you buy a new one and re-issue the certificate.
This is the part people miss: the token and the certificate are two different things. Your certificate can technically be reused on a new token if the old one breaks (with proper verification), but you cannot download a Class 3 DSC without any token at all — the regulation simply doesn't allow it anymore.
Getting an apply DSC online request through to issuance takes five practical steps:
Let me be clear: the video KYC step is not optional, no matter which agent tells you otherwise. It's a CCA requirement introduced in April 2021 specifically to reduce identity fraud in DSC issuance, and skipping it isn't something any licensed CA can legally offer.
DSC renewal is the process of re-issuing a certificate before or shortly after its validity period ends, typically 1 to 3 years from issuance. It works by repeating identity verification and generating a fresh key pair against the same CA. Most commonly needed for individuals and companies filing MCA, GST, or ITR forms every financial year. An expired DSC blocks form submission on every government portal instantly, with no grace period.
I've seen this mistake more times than I can count: a company director waits until the day of an MCA filing deadline to check their DSC, finds it expired, and then has maybe four hours to get dsc renewal online done before the portal closes for the day. It's avoidable. Set a reminder 30 days out.
Emudhra dsc renewal and renewal through other CAs both follow largely the same document and KYC steps as a fresh application — there's no shortcut, but there's also no reason it should take more than a few hours if your paperwork is ready.

A Lucknow-based trading firm came to us in March 2026 with an expired Class 2 DSC (issued back in 2022, before Class 2 was phased out) and a GeM tender deadline three days away. We switched them to a Class 3 combo certificate, ran video KYC the same afternoon, and had the token couriered overnight. They submitted their tender bid with four hours to spare. The lesson we took from it: always check your certificate class, not just its expiry date — an outdated class can block you even if the dates look fine.
DSC pricing and issuance in India is GST-inclusive (18%) and follows Controller of Certifying Authorities (CCA) licensing rules that every Certifying Authority, including eMudhra and Capricorn, must comply with. The CCA, under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, licenses every Certifying Authority permitted to issue DSCs in India. Section 3 of the Information Technology Act, 2000 gives digitally signed electronic records the same legal standing as physically signed paper documents. You can verify any CA's licence status directly on the CCA's official website.
You apply through a licensed Certifying Authority or a registered agent like LegalDev, upload PAN and Aadhaar, complete a short video KYC call, and pay the applicable fee. Once verified, the CA generates your key pair and issues the certificate to your USB token, usually the same day.
Yes, but only onto a valid, CCA-compliant USB token registered to your application. Since July 2023, older or generic tokens generally cannot be used for a fresh download, so you'll need a compatible token on hand before the CA releases the certificate.
No licensed Class 2 or Class 3 DSC is issued free in India, since certificate issuance involves CA infrastructure, mandatory video KYC, and a licensed hardware token. Be cautious of any provider offering a completely free certified electronic signature — it's usually a red flag for an unlicensed or fraudulent service.
Class 3 DSCs are issued for 1, 2, or 3 years, chosen at the time of application. Longer validity costs more upfront but avoids repeated KYC and paperwork. Most businesses filing annual MCA and tax returns choose a 2-year certificate as a practical middle ground.
A DSC isn't a printed document — it's a digital file, viewable as a certificate icon inside your USB token's management software, showing your name, validity dates, and the issuing CA. When you sign a PDF or portal form, it appears as a certificate stamp with the signer's verified identity attached.

A Class 3 digital signature isn't optional paperwork anymore — it's the thing standing between you and every MCA form, GST return, and tender bid you need to submit this year. We've walked hundreds of directors, proprietors, and CAs through this exact process, and same-day issuance is the norm, not the exception, when documents are in order.
