HDFC Bank Holidays 2026: Full State-Wise List You Need
Planning to visit your HDFC branch for something important — a cheque deposit, a loan document, a new account? Check this list first. HDFC Bank holidays 2026 vary by state, and showing up on the wrong day means a wasted trip and a delayed task.
This guide gives you every holiday, month by month, with the exact states where each applies.
Not every bank holiday is the same across the country. The Reserve Bank of India sets national holidays — Republic Day, Gandhi Jayanti, Independence Day — and those close branches everywhere. But most holidays are regional. Holi closes branches in Jaipur and Lucknow. Pongal is a holiday in Chennai. Bihu matters in Guwahati.
So before you plan any branch visit, check both: is it a national holiday, and does your state observe it? On top of all this, HDFC Bank branches stay closed every second and fourth Saturday of the month, plus all Sundays. That adds up quickly across the year.
Three holidays are coming up that many people miss:
May 9, 2026 — Birthday of Rabindranath Tagore (Kolkata)
May 16, 2026 — State Day (Gangtok)
May 26, 2026 — Birthday of Kazi Nazrul Islam (multiple states)
Plan your Kolkata branch visits around May 9. And if you are in any of the states observing May 26, keep that date marked.

Every second and fourth Saturday of every month, all HDFC Bank branches stay closed nationwide. This is a standing RBI rule — it applies to your branch regardless of which state you are in.
Here are those Saturdays for 2026:
January: 10, 24 | February: 14, 28 | March: 14, 28 | April: 11, 25
May: 9, 23 | June: 13, 27 | July: 11, 25 | August: 8, 22
September: 12, 26 | October: 10, 24 | November: 14, 28 | December: 12, 26
First, third, and fifth Saturdays of each month are normal working days.
Yes — every time, without exception. HDFC Bank's digital services run 24/7 regardless of whether the branch is shut. This includes:
ATM withdrawals and balance checks
NEFT, RTGS, and IMPS transfers
UPI payments via any app
Net banking and the HDFC mobile app
Credit card transactions
The only thing that stops on a bank holiday is the physical branch. Cheque clearance, demand drafts, locker access, and new account opening need you to be there in person — so those get delayed. Everything else carries on as normal.
Some holidays — Eid, Holi, Diwali — are decided by the lunar calendar, not the standard Gregorian one. That is why their dates land on a different day every year.
The same goes for holidays like Milad-Un-Nabi and Muharram. The exact date is confirmed only after the moon is sighted, which means minor shifts of a day are possible even close to the date. Always cross-check with the RBI holiday list or your local HDFC branch if you are planning something time-sensitive around those dates.
Check before you go. The HDFC Bank holiday list 2026 varies by city — what is a holiday in Mumbai may be a regular working day in Delhi.
April 1 is always closed. Banks shut on the first of April for annual account closing, every year. This is different from a festival holiday.
October is unpredictable. The Durga Puja and Dussehra cluster can mean 4–5 closures within two weeks. Any branch-dependent task in October should be done in the first two weeks of the month.
Upcoming transactions? Use NEFT or IMPS the day before any known holiday. Both work 24/7 and do not require the branch to be open.
A: HDFC Bank branches close on roughly 15 to 25 festival and public holidays each year, depending on the state. Add to that 52–53 Sundays and 24 second and fourth Saturdays, and the total number of non-working days crosses 90 to 100 annually. The exact count varies by city.
A: Yes. HDFC Bank branches remain open on the first, third, and fifth Saturdays of every month. Only the second and fourth Saturdays are closed, as per the RBI's standing guidelines for all scheduled banks in India.
A: Yes. April 1 is an annual bank closing day set aside for financial year-end account reconciliation. It is not a public or national holiday — it is a banking-specific closure that applies to most branches across India, including HDFC Bank.
A: Yes, NEFT and RTGS transfers are available 24/7 including all bank holidays, Sundays, and second and fourth Saturdays. The RBI extended NEFT to round-the-clock operations in 2019, so transfers go through even when every branch in the city is closed.
A: States in the northeast — particularly Assam (Guwahati), Mizoram (Aizawl), Meghalaya (Shillong), Manipur (Imphal), and Sikkim (Gangtok) — observe the highest number of regional holidays in addition to national ones. West Bengal (Kolkata) and Goa (Panaji) also have several state-specific closures throughout the year.
A: Diwali-related closures in 2026 fall on November 9, 10, and 11 depending on your city. Mumbai, Nagpur, and Belapur observe November 10 as the main Deepavali closure. Jaipur, Lucknow, and Imphal observe November 9. Some cities like Gangtok observe both days. Check your specific city before planning a branch visit.
A: No. Safe deposit locker access requires the branch to be open and staff to be present. Lockers cannot be accessed on bank holidays, second and fourth Saturdays, or Sundays. Plan any locker-related visit on a regular weekday.
A: Yes. Good Friday on April 3, 2026 is observed as a bank holiday in most states across India. HDFC Bank branches in cities including Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Kochi, and most northeastern cities will remain closed on that day.
A: HDFC Bank follows the holiday list notified by the RBI under the Negotiable Instruments Act. The RBI issues state-wise holiday lists for all scheduled banks, and HDFC Bank branches observe those along with any additional state government holidays applicable to that region.
A: No. UPI payments are not affected by branch holidays at all. UPI runs on the NPCI infrastructure and operates around the clock — whether your bank is open, closed for a festival, or closed for a Saturday. The only exception is rare scheduled maintenance windows, which banks announce in advance.
