The Annapurna Bhandar Scheme West Bengal is one of the biggest welfare announcements to come out of the state in 2026. Launched by the new BJP-led West Bengal government after it swept the 2026 assembly elections, the scheme replaces the earlier Lakshmir Bhandar programme and gives eligible women a flat ₹3,000 every month through direct bank transfer.

If you are searching for details on the Annapurna Bhandar scheme, how to apply, who qualifies, and how to do an Annapurna Bhandar status check, this guide covers everything based on the latest official updates.

What Is the Annapurna Bhandar Scheme?

The Annapurna Bhandar Scheme, also officially referred to as the Annapurna Yojana, is a women-focused financial assistance programme run by the Government of West Bengal. It is implemented by the Women and Child Development and Social Welfare Department and pays eligible women ₹3,000 per month, which works out to ₹36,000 per year, directly into their Aadhaar-linked bank accounts through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).

The scheme grew out of a campaign promise made during the 2026 West Bengal Assembly Election, when it was introduced as the "Matri Shakti Bharosa" guarantee. After the BJP formed the government following its election win, the promise was formally converted into the Annapurna Bhandar Scheme. The state cabinet cleared the scheme on 11 May 2026, an official notification followed on 19 May 2026, and the scheme was launched on 1 June 2026, with the first instalment credited to beneficiaries on 3 June 2026.

Annapurna Bhandar Scheme vs Lakshmir Bhandar Scheme

The Annapurna Bhandar Scheme replaces the Lakshmir Bhandar Scheme, which had been running in West Bengal since August 2021. Under Lakshmir Bhandar, general-category women received between ₹1,000 and ₹1,500 per month, while SC/ST women received ₹1,500 to ₹1,700 per month. The Annapurna Bhandar Scheme removes this category-based difference entirely — every eligible woman now gets the same flat ₹3,000 per month, regardless of caste or category.

Of the roughly 2.20 crore women who were enrolled under Lakshmir Bhandar, the government carried out a fresh verification drive before migration. Around 30 lakh women were found ineligible — mainly due to being marked dead, shifted, or deleted from the electoral rolls during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of 2026, or due to unresolved citizenship-related cases. The remaining eligible beneficiaries, roughly 2 crore women, are being migrated automatically to the Annapurna Bhandar Scheme without needing to submit a fresh application.

Annapurna Bhandar Scheme Eligibility

To qualify for the Annapurna Bhandar Scheme West Bengal, an applicant generally needs to meet these conditions:

  • Must be a woman aged between 25 and 60 years
  • Must be a permanent resident of West Bengal
  • Must have an Aadhaar-linked bank account for receiving DBT payments

Who is not eligible:

  • Income taxpayers
  • Permanent or retired government employees
  • Women receiving a regular salary or pension from the state or central government, panchayats, statutory bodies, local bodies, or municipalities
  • Teaching or non-teaching staff at government-aided educational institutions
  • Women identified as dead, shifted, deleted, or absentee electors during the SIR 2026 exercise

One exception: women whose names were deleted from the voter rolls during SIR but who have applied for citizenship under the CAA and have pending cases before tribunals will continue to receive benefits.

Annapurna Bhandar Scheme Benefits

  • ₹3,000 credited every month directly to the beneficiary's Aadhaar-linked bank account
  • ₹36,000 total financial support per year
  • No middlemen involved — funds move purely through DBT
  • Existing Lakshmir Bhandar beneficiaries are migrated automatically, so most women do not need to reapply
  • Intended to help with everyday costs such as groceries, medicines, electricity bills, and children's education

How to Apply for Annapurna Bhandar Scheme

Application forms became available from 27 May 2026, and the government has given a 90-day window (until around 25 August 2026) to complete registration. You can apply either online or offline.

Online Application

  1. Visit the official Social Registry West Bengal portal (socialsecurity.wb.gov.in)
  2. Log in to the Citizen Portal using your district, mobile number, and OTP
  3. Fill in the Annapurna Bhandar application form with your personal, Aadhaar, and bank details
  4. Upload scanned copies of the required documents
  5. Submit the form and note down your Application Reference Number for future tracking

Offline Application

  1. Visit your nearest Block Development Office (BDO), municipal office, panchayat office, or a government camp (such as the Janakalyan Shibir camps held across the state)
  2. Collect the physical application form, available in Bengali, English, and Hindi
  3. Fill it out carefully and attach self-attested copies of the required documents
  4. Submit the form to the counter and collect your acknowledgement receipt

Documents typically required: Aadhaar card, bank passbook with Aadhaar-linked account details, proof of residence, age proof, and income declaration.

Because errors in Aadhaar numbers, bank details, or income declarations can delay or reject an application, it's worth double-checking every field before submission. Also stick to the official government portal only — the state has warned against unofficial "apply now" websites designed to phish personal and banking information.

Annapurna Bhandar Status Check: Step-by-Step

If you've already applied and want to track your application, here's how to do an Annapurna Bhandar status check:

  1. Go to the official Social Registry West Bengal portal
  2. Look for the "Track Application" or "Check Status" option
  3. Log in using your district, registered mobile number, and OTP — or enter your Application Reference Number directly
  4. Complete OTP verification if prompted
  5. Your beneficiary profile and current application status will appear on screen

If your status isn't visible online, contact your local block office or municipality office for a manual update. If you were already receiving Lakshmir Bhandar payments, those will continue uninterrupted until your Annapurna Bhandar registration is verified and DBT payments begin.

Latest Payment Updates (2026)

  • 3 June 2026: First instalment released, covering more than 28 lakh women
  • 1 July 2026: Second instalment released at an event in Netaji Indoor Stadium, Kolkata, expanding coverage to roughly 1.3 crore women

If you haven't received your payment yet, check that your Aadhaar is properly linked to an active bank account and that DBT services are enabled on it, since most delays trace back to this step.
