Yashasvi Jaiswal and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi turned a rain-curtailed IPL 2026 match into something Guwahati won't forget anytime soon. Rajasthan Royals registered a commanding 27-run win over Mumbai Indians on Tuesday — their third straight victory of the season — with Jaiswal's unbeaten 32-ball 77 and Sooryavanshi's explosive 39 doing most of the damage after RR were sent in to bat.
The opening pair wasted absolutely zero time. They put on 80 runs together, peppering the boundary with nine sixes between them before the MI bowlers could even settle. Rajasthan finished at 150 for 3 in 11 overs. Their bowlers then came out and restricted Mumbai Indians to 123 for 9 — and honestly, it wasn't even that close.
The match didn't start until well past 10 PM. Persistent rain in Guwahati held things up for nearly three hours, with the toss finally happening at 9:55 PM. Action began at 10:10 PM, and the contest was reduced to 11 overs each side, with a powerplay of just 3.2 overs.
MI won the toss. Hardik Pandya, returning as captain after missing the previous match due to illness, chose to bowl first. That decision didn't age well.

Jaiswal didn't waste a ball from the very first delivery. He took on Deepak Chahar in the opening over and collected 22 runs — four boundaries, a six, and three more shots that set the tone for everything that followed.
Trent Boult came in at over three and fared no better. Jaiswal welcomed him with three sixes. By the end of the truncated 3.2-over powerplay, RR had already raced to 59 for 0. It resembled a highlights reel more than a T20 innings.
His fifty arrived off just 23 balls — a cut through point, timed to perfection. Dhruv Jurel fell cheaply after Sooryavanshi departed, but Jaiswal didn't slow down. He ended the innings with a boundary off the final ball to take RR to exactly 150. Unbeaten. Untouchable.
Chasing 151 in 11 overs is brutal at the best of times. But MI made it harder for themselves with a top-order collapse nobody really saw coming — or maybe they did, given recent form.
Ryan Rickelton (8), Rohit Sharma (5), and Suryakumar Yadav (6) all fell cheaply. MI were reeling at 23 for 3 inside the first three overs. Tilak Varma (14) and Hardik Pandya (9) tried to rebuild, but Rajasthan's bowlers maintained tight lines and struck at regular intervals. Nandre Burger (2/21) and Ravi Bishnoi (2/25) were particularly sharp — and Sandeep Sharma controlled the middle overs without letting MI find any rhythm.
And that was that. 123 for 9 at the end of 11 overs. RR win by 27 runs. They're now at the top of the IPL 2026 points table with three wins from three — the only unbeaten side in the tournament so far.
Rain washouts in the IPL result in points being split — both teams get one point each if no result is possible. In this match, though, the groundstaff in Guwahati pulled off a near-miracle. After two heavy spells, they managed to get the game going by 10 PM, giving fans at least 11 overs of action. No washout, no split — RR got the full two points.
Short answer: he read the length early and committed fully. The delivery was full and in the slot — Bumrah was probably looking to test him with pace, but Sooryavanshi's trigger movement put him in a great position to flick it over long-on. 15-year-olds don't usually do that. This one does.
Two reasons, really. First, their bowlers — including Bumrah (0/32 in 3 overs) — couldn't contain the RR openers during the powerplay, which cost them massively in a short-format game. Second, their top three fell for a combined 19 runs inside three overs. In an 11-over chase, that's basically unrecoverable.
Hard to argue against it at this point. He came into IPL 2026 having already scored 38 against CSK and 55 against Gujarat Titans. Then 77 not out against MI. His record against Mumbai Indians specifically reads 296 runs in eight innings at an average of 42.28 and a strike rate of 177.24 — two of his four IPL centuries have come against them. This depends on whether you weigh consistency or explosiveness more, but nobody else is putting up numbers like this right now.
Rajasthan Royals have had some memorable wins against MI over the years, including Jaiswal centuries at Jaipur in recent seasons. But head-to-head records in T20 cricket shift quickly — MI were a dominant force for years and have five IPL titles. As of IPL 2026, RR are the ones flying: three wins from three games, top of the table. MI, meanwhile, have lost two of their three matches and are sitting seventh. The drawing board awaits them.
