KKR vs SRH IPL 2026 Match 6 Preview: Playing 11, Pitch Report & Key Battles

Two teams. Zero wins. One venue that could change everything tonight.

Kolkata Knight Riders welcome Sunrisers Hyderabad to Eden Gardens on April 2 in Match 6 of IPL 2026 — and honestly, neither side can afford another night like their opener. Both KKR and SRH put up 200-plus scores in their first games and still walked off the field having lost. That pretty much tells you everything about where these bowling attacks currently stand.

KKR got to 220 against Mumbai Indians. MI chased it down without breaking a sweat — the biggest successful chase in MI's IPL history. SRH posted 201 against RCB, and watched helplessly as the defending champions completed the fastest-ever 200-plus chase in IPL history. Different opponents, same story. The bats are firing. The bowlers are not.

Tonight is not just another match for Rahane — he steps out for his 200th IPL game, becoming only the 11th player ever to hit that landmark. A milestone occasion, and one he'll want marked with a win rather than another painful defeat.

Pat Cummins is still out with a back injury, so Kishan leads again. His batting in the opener was genuinely impressive — a strong half-century under pressure. The question is whether he can bring the same energy to his captaincy decisions tonight.

Eden Gardens Pitch Report & Weather — IPL 2026, April 2

Eden Gardens in 2026 has been set up to produce big scores, and tonight should be no different. Expect heat, humidity around 28°C, and — crucially — heavy dew once the sun goes down. That dew factor is the single biggest tactical consideration going into the toss. Whoever wins the flip will almost certainly bowl first. Defending totals with a slippery ball in the back half of a T20 is hard enough on a good day. On this ground, in these conditions, it borders on impossible.

KKR Playing 11 vs SRH — IPL 2026 Probable XI

Let's be direct about KKR's bowling situation — it's a mess. Harshit Rana, Akash Deep, Matheesha Pathirana, and Mustafizur Rahman are all unavailable. Four frontline pace options, gone before the season properly started. Cameron Green adds another complication — he's in the XI purely as a batter, with no bowling expected from him again tonight. Head coach Abhishek Nayar didn't mince words about it before the game, admitting that Green's inability to bowl has genuinely hurt their combination-building.

What's left? Blessing Muzarabani and Vaibhav Arora lead the pace attack, with Sunil Narine and Varun Chakravarthy holding the spin end. Narine and Chakravarthy were below their usual standard against MI — SRH's aggressive top order will smell blood if that continues. Nayar has publicly backed Chakravarthy, though, saying the team's belief in him hasn't wavered.

Finn Allen is the bright spot. No batter in T20 cricket has scored more runs in 2026 — 732 across 17 innings at a strike rate touching 193. And he has special memories of this ground. It was at Eden Gardens where Allen smashed an unbeaten 100 off 33 balls against South Africa in the T20 World Cup semi-final, single-handedly powering New Zealand's chase. KKR will need something similar from him at the top tonight.

Rovman Powell looks set to stay out again, with Cameron Green keeping his spot as the fourth overseas batter.

SRH Playing 11 vs KKR — IPL 2026 Probable XI

SRH's selection headaches are different from KKR's — but no less significant. Cummins remains sidelined with that back injury. Brydon Carse, who hurt his hand in training before the RCB game, is also almost certainly out again tonight. That's two of their more experienced pace options unavailable simultaneously.

David Payne, who made his IPL debut against RCB, keeps his place as a result. The real selection call for Kishan is between Liam Livingstone and Eshan Malinga for that fourth overseas slot. Livingstone sat out the opener as SRH tried to beef up the bowling — it didn't work. There's a strong argument he walks back in, especially on a surface where his hitting ability in the middle overs could be decisive.

SRH head coach Daniel Vettori acknowledged the inexperience in his bowling group but pointed to the presence of Dwayne Bravo and Tim Southee in the support staff as a resource the younger bowlers are actively drawing from. Encouraging words — but Harshal Patel, Jaydev Unadkat, and the rest will need to back them up with actual dot balls tonight.

The batting, at least, remains genuinely threatening. Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head at the top, Kishan and Klaasen in the middle — that's as explosive a top four as any team in IPL 2026 carries. Aniket Verma also showed in the opener he belongs at this level, smashing 43 off 18 balls against RCB.

SRH Probable Playing 11 for IPL 2026 vs KKR: Abhishek Sharma, Travis Head, Ishan Kishan (wk/c), Heinrich Klaasen, Aniket Verma, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Salil Arora, Harsh Dubey, Harshal Patel, David Payne, Eshan Malinga / Liam Livingstone

The Rinku Singh vs Harshal Patel matchup is the one to circle. Rinku has hammered 49 runs off just 28 balls against Harshal at a strike rate of 175 — and Harshal has only got him out once for his trouble. If Rinku gets to the crease with Harshal still having overs left, that battle alone could swing 20-25 runs either way. Rahane, meanwhile, has a tricky record against Unadkat — dismissed four times in six IPL innings — and on his milestone 200th game, that's a matchup worth watching closely from ball one.

Heinrich Klaasen against KKR's spin duo is the biggest tactical battle of this entire game. He hits Chakravarthy at a strike rate of 186 and Narine at 184. Those are not numbers a captain wants to see on a spin-friendly Eden Gardens surface. If Klaasen comes in during the middle overs and KKR's two spinners can't get him out early, this match could run away from the hosts very quickly. Rahane will need a plan — and probably a third bowling option — before Klaasen gets set.

The Bottom Line

Tonight's KKR vs SRH IPL 2026 clash at Eden Gardens is as close to a coin flip as it gets in T20 cricket. Both squads can bat. Neither squad can comfortably bowl 20 overs of pressure cricket right now. The team that manages the dew, uses the toss well, and finds one or two bowlers willing to take responsibility in the back end of an innings — that's the team that opens its account in IPL 2026 tonight.

One thing is absolutely certain: this won't be a low-scoring game. Come for the batting. Stay for the chaos.
