Annapurna Bhandar Scheme 2026 – Eligibility, Benefits, How to Apply and Status Check

West Bengal women have been asking about this for months. And finally, there is a confirmed date — June 1, 2026 is when the Annapurna Bhandar Scheme goes live.

₹3,000 every month, sent straight to your bank account. No forms to chase down at a government office every quarter, no waiting in lines to collect cash. Just a DBT credit, month after month, for every woman who qualifies.

If you were on Lakshmir Bhandar before, good news — you do not need to do anything. But if you are new to this, read on. This covers everything from who qualifies to how the Annapurna Bhandar application actually works.

So What Is the Annapurna Bhandar Scheme, Really?

It started as an election promise. During the 2026 West Bengal Assembly Elections, the ruling party announced what was then called the Matri Shakti Bharosa Scheme — a monthly cash transfer for women. After the election results came in and the new government was formed, the scheme got its final name: Annapurna Bhandar.

The cabinet approved it on May 11, 2026 — the very first meeting of the newly elected government. Eight days later, on May 19, the Chief Minister's office released an official notification confirming June 1 as the launch date.

It replaces Lakshmir Bhandar entirely. Same DBT structure, nearly double the amount.

Who Gets In and Who Does Not

The eligibility rules are not complicated, but they matter. Getting this wrong wastes time for everyone.

You are eligible when:

  • You are a woman
  • West Bengal is your permanent home
  • You are somewhere between 25 and 60 years old

You will not qualify if:

  • You file income tax
  • You are a serving or retired government employee
  • A salary or pension from the state government, central government, panchayat, municipality, statutory body, or a government-aided school or college already comes into your account regularly

Already on Lakshmir Bhandar? Then forget everything above — your migration to Annapurna Bhandar happens automatically. No paperwork, no waiting.

₹3,000 - How Difference Does It Make?

Lakshmir Bhandar paid somewhere between ₹1,500 and ₹1,700 a month depending on your category. Annapurna Bhandar cuts that complexity and raises the bar to a flat ₹3,000 for everyone who qualifies.

For a family running on tight margins, that extra ₹1,300 to ₹1,500 every month covers a lot. A month's worth of cooking oil, a child's school supplies, a visit to the doctor — things that often get pushed aside when money runs short.

The payment goes into whichever bank account is currently linked to your Aadhaar card, so make sure that account is active before June.

Documents to Keep Ready Before You Apply

Nothing unusual here. Just the standard set that most government applications ask for:

  • Aadhaar Card
  • Voter ID Card
  • Residence proof
  • Bank passbook or a recent account statement
  • A couple of passport-size photos

One thing people often overlook — check whether the bank account number on your passbook matches what is registered with Aadhaar. A mismatch there is one of the most common reasons payments get stuck.

How the Annapurna Bhandar Application Works

Applications open June 1, 2026. You pick the route that suits you — online from home, or offline at a nearby centre.

Going Online

  1. Head to the official Annapurna Bhandar portal once it goes live on June 1.
  2. Register a new account and log in.
  3. Find the "Apply Online" or "New Application" option on the dashboard.
  4. Enter your mobile number — an OTP will come through for verification.
  5. Fill in the form. It asks for your personal details, your address, and some basic family information.
  6. Upload clear scans or photos of your documents.
  7. Submit. Write down the reference number that appears — you will need it to track your application later.
  8. Wait for the department to verify and approve everything.

Going in Person

  1. Find your nearest block office, municipality office, government camp, or designated service centre.
  2. Pick up a physical form and fill it out by hand.
  3. Attach self-attested photocopies of all your documents.
  4. Hand everything in at the counter.
  5. You will get an acknowledgement slip — keep it somewhere safe.

What the Application Form Will Ask For

The form itself is fairly standard. Expect fields for:

  • Full name
  • Date of birth and age
  • Permanent address
  • Aadhaar number
  • Ration card number
  • Yearly household income
  • Family member details
  • Bank account number and IFSC
  • Signature or thumb impression

Double-check everything before you submit. Small errors — a wrong digit in an account number, a name that does not match your Aadhaar — can push back your approval by weeks.

Checking Your Application Status After Submission

Online: Log into the scheme portal, go to "Track Application," and punch in your reference number.

In person: Take your acknowledgement slip to the nearest block or municipal office and ask for an update at the counter.

Bank Account Linked to Aadhaar: Why It Matters and How to solve It

The DBT transfer goes only to one place — the bank account registered against your Aadhaar. If that account is closed, dormant, or just not the one you use anymore, the payment will bounce.

Here is how to check and fix it before the scheme starts.

First, Check What Is Currently Linked

  1. Go to the NPCI website.
  2. Under "Customer," click on "Bharat Aadhaar Seeding Enabler (BASE)."
  3. Hit "Aadhaar Mapped Status."
  4. Enter your Aadhaar number and captcha.
  5. Verify with an OTP on your registered mobile.
  6. Your linked bank name, account info, and DBT status will show up right there.

If You Need to Change or Update the Account

  1. On the NPCI portal — "Customer" → "BASE" → "Aadhaar Seeding/Deseeding."
  2. Enter Aadhaar number, choose "Seeding."
  3. Pick your new bank.
  4. Choose the right seeding type:
    • Fresh Seeding — nothing was linked before
    • Same bank, new account — different account in the same bank
    • Different bank entirely — moving to a new bank
  5. Enter the new account number twice.
  6. Fill the captcha, accept terms, click submit.
  7. OTP confirmation — done.

After the update, you can cross-check by logging into the myAadhaar portal and looking at the "Bank Seeding Status" tab.

Latest News and Updates — May 2026

  • May 11, 2026 — Scheme got cabinet approval at the new government's first meeting.

Questions That Keep Coming Up (FAQs)

My Lakshmir Bhandar payments used to come regularly. Do I need to reapply?

No. The government is handling the migration on its end. Your account stays the same, the amount changes to ₹3,000.

When can I submit the Annapurna Bhandar application?

June 1, 2026 onward — online or at an offline centre near you.

Is annapurnabhandar.com the real government site?

No, that is a private website. Wait for the official portal to go live on June 1.

I keep hearing about an Annapurna Yojana from the central government — is that this scheme?

Different scheme entirely. The central government one is under the National Social Assistance Programme and gives 10 kg of free food grains each month to destitute senior citizens aged 65 and above. The Annapurna Bhandar Scheme is a West Bengal state scheme — cash support of ₹3,000 per month for eligible women. Same word in the name, completely different programme.

June 1 is not far off. If you are eligible, make sure your Aadhaar details are correct, your bank account is active, and your documents are within reach. The Annapurna Bhandar application process is straightforward — and once approved, ₹3,000 shows up in your account every single month without you having to do a thing.
