If your Aadhaar is not linked to your ICICI Bank account yet, you could be missing out on government subsidies, LPG benefits, and Direct Benefit Transfer payments — without even realising it. The good news? Linking it takes less than five minutes. And there are five different ways to do it.
Whether you prefer doing things on your phone, at an ATM, or simply walking into a branch — ICICI Bank has a method that works for you.
The government has made it mandatory to link Aadhaar with bank accounts specifically for receiving government scheme benefits under DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer). Think MNREGA wages, LPG subsidies, scholarships, and welfare payments — all of these flow directly into an Aadhaar-linked bank account.
Beyond government benefits, Aadhaar linking also adds a layer of biometric security to your account, making it harder for fraudulent transactions to slip through.
So if you are receiving — or plan to receive — any government subsidy or scheme benefit in your ICICI account, this is non-negotiable.
If you already use ICICI's internet banking, this takes about two minutes.
Step 1: Log in to your ICICI Bank net banking account at the official portal. Step 2: Look for the 'Aadhaar Update' option on your dashboard. Step 3: Enter your 12-digit Aadhaar number carefully. Step 4: Re-enter the number to confirm, then click 'Submit'.
That's it. Your ICICI Bank Aadhaar link request goes through immediately. You will get an SMS confirmation once it is processed — usually within two to three business days.
One thing to keep in mind: you need active net banking credentials before you can use this method. If you haven't set that up yet, the iMobile app or branch visit might be a quicker starting point for you.
The ICICI iMobile app is honestly the smoothest way to handle this. Most people already have it installed, and the whole process takes under three minutes.
Step 1: Open the iMobile app and log in using your 4-digit PIN or net banking credentials. Step 2: Go to 'Services'. Step 3: Select 'Instabanking Services'. Step 4: Tap on 'Update Aadhaar'. Step 5: Enter your 12-digit Aadhaar card number and submit the request. Step 6: A confirmation message will appear once the ICICI Bank Aadhaar seeding is successful.
This method works 24/7, which is a big plus. No need to visit a branch or wait for banking hours.
This one surprises a lot of people — yes, ICICI Bank does support Aadhaar linking through SMS, contrary to what some older articles say.
Step 1: From your registered mobile number, type a message in this format: AADHAAR 12-digit Aadhaar number Last 6 digits of your ICICI savings account number
Step 2: Send this SMS to 9215676766.
Step 3: You will receive a confirmation message on your registered mobile number once the process is complete.
Important: The SMS must be sent only from the mobile number registered with your ICICI Bank account. A different number will not work.
Prefer handling things at an ATM? That works too.
Step 1: Walk into any ICICI Bank ATM near you. Step 2: Insert your debit card, select your preferred language, and enter your PIN. Step 3: Select 'More Options' from the menu. Step 4: Choose 'Aadhaar Updation'. Step 5: Enter your 12-digit Aadhaar number. Step 6: Re-enter and confirm the number, then submit the request.
The ATM method is particularly useful if you don't have internet access but still want to avoid a branch visit.
ICICI Bank's customer care line also supports Aadhaar linking — and the call is completely free.
Step 1: Dial 1800-1080 (ICICI Bank toll-free number). Step 2: Choose your preferred language and press 1 for Banking Accounts. Step 3: Enter your debit card number or account number, along with your ATM PIN. Step 4: When the Aadhaar prompt plays, press 1 to initiate Aadhaar number updation. Step 5: Provide your Aadhaar card number and confirm the bank account linkage.
Done. The IVR system processes your request right away, and you should receive a confirmation SMS within a couple of days.
Not everyone is comfortable with apps or ATMs — and that is completely fine. Walking into a branch is just as valid, and the staff is trained to help you through it.
Step 1: Visit your nearest ICICI Bank branch with your Aadhaar card. Step 2: At the lobby entrance, ask the Lobby Manager or the 'May I Help You' desk for the 'Stay Connected' form. Step 3: Fill in your account number, customer ID, and 12-digit Aadhaar card number. Step 4: Attach a self-attested photocopy of your Aadhaar card along with the form and submit it. Step 5: A bank executive will verify your original Aadhaar and hand back a receipt.
Your ICICI Bank Aadhaar link will be completed after the branch verifies your documents. This typically takes one to two business days.
Submitted your request and wondering if it went through? Here is how to verify.
Step 1: Go to the myAadhaar portal (myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in) and log in with your Aadhaar number and OTP. Step 2: Click on 'Bank Seeding Status'. Step 3: The status will appear on screen. A successful link shows the message: "Your Aadhaar-Bank Mapping has been done" — along with the bank name, seeding status, and date of last update.
If your status is still pending after three business days, the branch visit is the safest next step.
People use these terms interchangeably, but they are technically different.
Aadhaar Linking means the bank updates your Aadhaar number only in their own Core Banking System (CBS).
Aadhaar Seeding goes a step further — the bank updates your Aadhaar number in both CBS and the NPCI mapper. Only a seeded account can receive DBT payments directly.
When you link through ICICI's official channels (net banking, iMobile, ATM, or branch), the bank handles both automatically. But it's worth knowing the difference if you're troubleshooting a DBT payment that hasn't arrived.

A: Once your request is processed, you will receive an SMS confirmation within two to three business days. Online requests via iMobile or net banking are usually faster than branch-submitted forms.
A: Yes. Send a message in the format — AADHAAR [12-digit Aadhaar] [last 6 digits of account number] — to 9215676766 from your registered mobile number. You will get a confirmation SMS once the ICICI Bank Aadhaar link is completed.
A: Aadhaar linking updates your Aadhaar in the bank's internal Core Banking System only. Aadhaar seeding goes further — it also updates the NPCI mapper, which is what allows Direct Benefit Transfer payments to reach your account directly.
A: Yes, you can link your Aadhaar to multiple bank accounts across different banks. However, for DBT payments, only one account can be set as your primary Aadhaar-seeded account at a time through the NPCI mapper.
A: Log in to the myAadhaar portal at myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in, enter your Aadhaar number and OTP, and click on 'Bank Seeding Status'. If the status shows your bank name with a successful mapping message, your account is seeded and ready to receive DBT payments.
A: First, check that the mobile number linked to your Aadhaar is the same one registered with your ICICI Bank account. If the issue persists, visit your nearest ICICI Bank branch and submit the 'Stay Connected' form in person — the branch method is the most reliable fallback.
A: It is not mandatory for general banking use. However, if you want to receive government scheme benefits, subsidies, or DBT payments into your ICICI account, the government mandates Aadhaar linkage for those specific transactions.
A: Yes. If you want to delink your Aadhaar — for example, if you are closing an account — you can do so through the myAadhaar portal or by visiting your ICICI Bank branch and submitting a delink request.
A: Carry your original Aadhaar card and a self-attested photocopy. The bank executive will verify the original and return it to you after checking. No other documents are required specifically for the Aadhaar update process.
A: Once your Aadhaar seeding is confirmed and the NPCI mapper is updated, LPG subsidies are typically credited in the next billing cycle. If there's a delay beyond two billing cycles, check your seeding status on the myAadhaar portal and verify that your Aadhaar is linked to your LPG consumer number as well.
